Yet another potential treatment

Researchers at Toronto’s University Health Network say they’ve found a possible Covid-19 treatment: interferon(IFN)- α2b. Lousy name, but good results:

The research team found that treatment with this drug, which has been used clinically for many years, significantly reduced the duration of detectable virus in the upper respiratory tract, on average by about seven days.

It’s not entirely surprising — interferons (there are a bunch) are how the body first responds to viruses. But viruses can block interferon, so adding more means “it is possible to override this block.”

Next up: human trials.
